Skiing Austria
Favorite Travel Destination
The favorite holiday destination for winter sports, but also for a summer filled with adventures, has long been Austria.
Especially the winter sports can be called a unique experience for skiers who often every year travel to the White Austria to enjoy the wonderful skiing on one of the many excellent ski resorts.
Characteristic for this snow paradise are the hospitality and the perfect and especially snow-sure slopes, but also the very good infrastructure, and ample opportunities for après ski. Especially the last is for many skiers, along with the high quality of the ski resorts, the reason to spend the winter holidays in Austria.
Although slopes in the high mountains are less extensive than in eg Switzerland, and most ski villages lie lower, the snow guarantee is often just as good or even better than in other winter sports destinations. It is however important to look at the expected snowfall, for example by the amount of snowfall in the past, before you book the winter holidays in a less known ski resort or less known region. Austria has ski resorts with more snow and ski resorts which lie lower and therefore have less snow to offer. Moreover, the winter can have lots of snow, but the dry winds from the south can also simply decrease the amount of snow rapidly, at which point the avalanche danger quickly rises.
Known or cheaper ski village
Also important are the price differences between the various ski resorts and villages.
Better known destinations and ski resorts with higher guaranteed snow are usually more expensive. Less well-known ski resorts are cheaper, but usually have fewer kilometers of slopes and less facilities available.
If you travel to a famous ski resort, such as Ischgl, Serfaus or Sölden, you usually have a snow guarantee from the opening of the ski season until the closing, usually on the second day of Easter or around May 1st.
This, combined with good facilities and the major events that will be organized during the winter season, make larger holiday resorts more popular. More slopes, more challenging experiences on the slopes, more events with great artists, so you would usually say, greater winter holidays!
Otherwise, smaller ski resorts also have their advantages.
For example if you are looking for a smaller ski resort , which is more orderly, and child and family friendly. In addition to the advantage of lower prices, smaller ski areas are often less attractive to young people. Because the public on smaller ski resorts often is somewhat different, families with children and seniors, there are usually fewer facilities and no major events. This means that you often can enjoy skiing or snowboarding with your family and kids more. This also applies for ski resorts with between 15 and 45 kilometers of slopes. For example the beautiful and especially child-friendly ski resort Hochoetz.
Are you looking for many kilometers of slopes and challenge beside the slopes, freeride and après ski, then enjoy the winter holidays on one of the larger ski resorts. Do you want to enjoy winter sports, quiet and pleasant, along with your children, or you belong to the seniors, look at a ski resort that is not larger than 40 to 45 kilometers of slopes. Winter sports is indeed always something personal, everyone enjoys in a different way.
