The Kaprunertal in the late Ice Age, about 14,000 years ago, became covered by a mighty glacier.
Slowly the glacier pushed into the valley, and dragged the hard rocks of the Maiskogel and the Burgkogel, leaving a notch behind in the valley.
Flooded by the Kapruner Ache. Up to 32 meters deep the Kapruner Ache ate into the rocks, over a length of 320 meters, through the Sigmund Thun Gorge.
