L'Alpe d'Huez is a world famous destination, spa in the summer and regular battleground during the Tour de France, and an internationally popular destination for winter sports.
The ski resort is fondly called "l'île au soleil", or island in the sun, and is a paradise for winter sports. The ski resort extends over a large part of the Grandes Rousses.
The ski resort connects the ski villages Huez-en-Oisans, Auris-en-Oisans, Vaujany, Oz-en-Oisans and Villard-Reculas, and of course offers also a unique view of the Parc National de Ecrins and famous peaks as the La Muzelle and Mont Blanc.
Characteristic for the ski village is the proper integration of the buildings in the surrounding countryside, and modern ski lifts, which run to the top of the glacier.
Skiing with no end to the possibilities, such as the four descents from the summit to the valley, with a vertical drop of about 2,000 meters.
